Hundreds of parents and parents to be from across Logan converged on The Salvation Army building on Paradise Rd earlier this month for The Early Years Pregnancy to Prep Expo.

The event was officially opened by Minister for Communities, Women and Youth, Minister for Child Safety and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence and Member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman who spent time visiting each display and chatting with attendees.

The Expo was a community led project organised and managed by a number of Logan Together community empowerment agents, supported by members of the Logan Together backbone team.

The event was packed with information on pregnancy, birth and early learning from a diverse range of services and suppliers. Pregnant mums and even babies were able to enjoy a relaxing massage, the First Five Forever team were there to spread the reading bug and presentations on topics ranging from baby CPR to debt reduction kept the crowds informed. Complimentary childcare was on offer to make it easier for parents and carers to spend time gathering information.

“I’m new to the Logan area & expecting our first child in a few weeks. So lovely to connect with loads of lovely friendly people and know what’s available in the area.”

Children from Eagleby Children’s Centre and Goodstart Early Learning Slacks Creek joined in the fun and were treated to a book reading and sing-along from Logan City Councillor Steve Swenson, who is an ambassador for The Early Years Book Buddy program.

Early Years resources such as checklists and milestone charts were also available for parents and carers preparing to enrol children in Kindy and Big School. If you missed the event and want to get your hands on the resources click here to download them.
